MESSAGE FROM ILSE
January 2008
To My
Clients:
This is to wish you and yours a Happy Holiday season. I hope that you have all had a good year in 2007 and a wonderful new year.
Enclosed is the organizer to help you gather your tax information. Be certain to bring all the necessary forms (W2's, various 1099's, etc) with you. If you are running a business, make certain to bring your income and expense records. If you sold any stocks or bonds, in addition to the sale information, also provide the purchase information of the sold items.
Note the following tax items new for this coming year:
Under contributions, taxpayers must have a statement from the charity showing the name of the charity, the date of contribution and the amount given. As an alternative, the taxpayer can have a bank record of the contribution (check as an example). These are for cash donations. For donated goods, the same applies. Enclosed is a form which helps on the price range for donated goods. Bring it along with your paperwork.
As a note, you need to retain for four years all the documents, receipts, cancelled checks and other records required to substantiate the items of income and expense claimed on your return. We (the tax preparer) will not audit or otherwise verify any information. We may require clarification or additional information. We are not responsible for disallowed deductions, or the inclusion of additional unreported income.
Please telephone for a tax appointment at your convenience. Tax appointments will be for after January 31.
We appreciate the opportunity to serve you and look forward to a continuing relationship.
Sincerely,
Ilse Beck, E.A.
