ELDER CARE
Over the years, the average age of the population has slowly increased from the mid thirties to the mid to late fifties. In the process, parents are living longer, often well
into their 80's and 90's. As a result, the middle generation may have small to grown children still needing their help and older parent(s) who are also in need of their children's assistance.
Many children help their parents with grocery and personal shopping, bookkeeping, looking after their investments, helping with their medical problems as they arise (i.e., taking them to medical appointments, making certain their medicines are taken as required, etc.) and helping with everyday chores.
Many times the most important (or emotionally sensitive) assistance for the middle generation to do is
the bookkeeping: helping to make certain that income is actually received, bills paid on time, important papers
are stored in a safe place and checking that, in some instances, certain assets are well accounted for.
Another of my services is providing a small class for elder clients on a periodic basis on how to
work on their own bookkeeping and paperwork. They can also have telephone
consultations with me for additional help. Many times, this makes the elder clients feel
they are contributing to their own well being.
In many instances, my services can help the middle generation by taking part of this
responsibility off their shoulders so they can take care of the more important tasks for
their parents. All work is done on a confidential basis. Consultations for children of their
elder parent(s) are available.
My services are available for individual families, as well as organizations. Also available
are speaking engagements at organizations dealing in elder care, such as retirement
homes, assisted living, and convalescent homes, among others. Through an appointment,
we can meet to help establish the needs of families and elder and retired persons.
