BEING A CONSERVATOR
A
loved one needs help in handling their bills, records or
just can’t live alone any longer. You volunteer to help, but
are you aware of what that entails?
Who can be a conservator?
The
person being conserved (the conservatee) may nominate any
qualified individual or the Public Guardian may petition to
be a person’s conservator.
What
does a conservator do? A conservator*:

conservatee with the best and most independent living
environment possible, within the conservatee’s abilities
and resources.
- Assures that all
personal care, medical care and services needed to
maintain a save and comfortable living environment are
provided.
- Locates, manages and
protects all estate assets, applies for income benefits to
which the conservatee may be entitled and pays all debts,
keeping accurate financial records.
- Represents or arranges
representation for the conservatee in all legal matters.
- Files timely accountings
of income and disbursements with the courts and sends a
